FAQ,S

What should I expect from my first appointment?

The therapist will review and discuss your Health History Form and your needs/goals for therapy. Your current pain level, past injuries, accidents, surgeries and traumas throughout your life, these are all clues to your fascial restrictions.  I will look at your body in standing position, and then feel for tensions throughout the body both standing and lying down.  I do not use lotions or oils of any kind during Myofascial Release. Please be mindful and do NOT apply lotion or oil to the skin the day of treatment. You will also be given self-treatment techniques to continue at home. Any questions or concerns can also be addressed during and after the session.

What should I wear during treatment?

When receiving Myofascial Release wearing undergarments or loose-fitting exercise shorts is ideal for both comfort and ease of working on the body. This facilitates the initial postural evaluation and the natural movements of the body during treatment.  Loose tank tops can be worn if additional covering is preferred. We do not use lotions or oils of any kind during Myofascial Release. Please be mindful and do NOT apply lotion or oil to the skin the day of treatment.

Will I be covered during the session?
Unlike massage, Myofascial Release encourages movement. Movement is usually impeded by sheets or blankets. However, when you are being treated on the treatment table, you always have the option of a cover. Modest draping with a full-size sheet is provided should you require it. Your comfort is our priority.

Why do I need to drink extra water before and after treatments?

MFR releases toxins as restrictions are diminished. Drinking extra water ensures that such toxins are flushed out of the system. It also replenishes the fascia that was unable to receive hydration and nutrients when restrictions existed.

How long will it take before I start to notice a difference?

Every individual responds differently based on factors such as the duration and severity of medical history, current lifestyle, motivation levels and  frequency/consistency of sessions as well as maintaining home exercise regimens.

How many sessions will I need?

Treatment results vary with each individual. There is no "one size fits all" answer.  Even with similar diagnoses, each person is very individual in terms of complexity of the problem, and responsiveness to the treatment.  For some even just one session can impart a lifetime of changes, though most feel improvement within the first few treatments.  Even one session is better than none!   Every “body” tells a different story.    Chronic and more severe conditions will require greater frequency and increased length of treatment.  However, each person is unique in their needs, responsiveness, expectations, financial and time constraints, and we can work together to decide what is the best course of action. There is no protocol that must be followed, and you are free to decide what works best for you.

Our ultimate goal is to empower you with tools/techniques you can use at home to manage your own symptoms.

What are the benefits of Myofascial Release?
Myofascial Release can help release chronic muscular tension and pain, improve circulation, increase joint flexibility, reduce mental and physical fatigue and stress, promote faster healing of injured muscular tissue, improve posture, and much more.  Myofascial Release is also known to promote better sleep, improve concentration, reduce anxiety and create an overall sense of well-being.
